December 2009

Dear Friend of Pro-Literacy Detroit,
For the past 25 years, Pro-Literacy Detroit has been working to strengthen the minds and lives of the Detroit community by providing free literacy services for persons age 16 and older who struggle with reading. Pro-Literacy Detroit is the largest literacy organization in the State of Michigan, offering:
• one-on-one tutoring
• small group tutoring
• volunteer tutor training and certification
• a reading and literacy resource center
• after school programming
• English as a second language tutoring
• virtual pro-literacy university on-line

During this time Pro-Literacy Detroit has tutored over 12,000 adult learners, and trained over 8000 tutors.
With a 47% illiteracy rate and a double digit unemployment rate in the City of Detroit, it is more important than ever for Pro-Literacy Detroit to continue its mission of recruitment, training, and support of community volunteers who provide basic literacy skills through innovative, goal-driven programs.
During this holiday season, we ask that you consider making a tax-deductible $100 contribution to Pro-Literacy Detroit. However, any amount will be appreciated and will be fully utilized. Donations can be mailed to 2111, Woodward Avenue, Suite 410, Detroit 48201. You can donate on-line at our web site www.proliteracydetroit.org .
We hope that we can count on you to join us in supporting Pro-Literacy Detroit’s programs.
Happy Holidays to you and your family,
Nancy Balog, President Margaret Williamson, Executive Director
